WANG YUNG
1959, 15 (2): 55-62. doi: 10.7498/aps.15.55
Abstract +
All the wave function of a two-photon system with definite angular momentum and parity are found out, the polarization states of photons systematically analyzed. The imperfections in the discussions of Yang, Shirokov and Shapiro are also cleared away.

The branching ratios of the decay of the hyperons, the ratios of the mean life times of the decay of various hyperons and the ratios of the life times of the hyperons to that of the K+-meson are calculated by using the universal Ferm weak interaction proposed by Feynman and Gell-Mann and the strong interaction proposed by Salam. The perturbation theory is used with a cut off in the region of large momentum. By using the coupling constants of the strong interaction given by Warner and choosing suitable values for the other two coupling constants remaing to be fixed most of the results of our calculation agree fairly well with the experiments. The worst result differs from the experimental Values at most bya facto of 2. The theoretical values of the branching ratios of K+-decay is derivedfrom this set of new coupling constants shown better agreement with the experiment than the results obtained in the previous paper. Our, calculation shows that the universal Fermi weak interaction of V-A type gives quite satisfactory explanation of the decay phenomena of K-mesons and the hyperons. It is also evident from our calculation, that these decays must be regarded as phenomena brought about by the joint action of the strong and weak interactions and that there exist two classes of strong interactions: the "very strong" one and the "medium strong" one. Our results favour the assumption that the ∧ and ∑ have the same parity. It also shows, that of the 4 terms of the strong interaction Hamiltonian given by Salam involving the K-meson at least two terma involve γ5 matrix.

By assuming various forms of interaction Hamiltonian the angular distribution of the decay products of spin 1/2 particle obeying the Dirac equation and that of spin 3/2 particle obeying Rarita-Schwinger equation are calculated. The ratio of the strength of parity conserving and the parity non- conserving interaction on the one hand and the asymmetry parameter α on the other hand is discussed. It is pointed out, that if the vector and pseudo-vector coupling in the universal Fermi weak interaction proposed by Feynman and Gell-Mann are exactly equal to each other, then this theory gives an asymmetry parameter α of Λ particle decay, which is consistent with the experimental result. If the ratio of the square of these two coupling constants is 1:1.55 as suggested by β-decay experiments, then the asymmetry parameter derived from this theory is -0.97, which is already on the margin of the experimental data. The angular distribution of the decay products of spin 3/2 particle obeying the Rarita-Schwinger wave equation cannot be made agree with the experimental result of the ∧ particle decay, a conclusion, which was first pointed out by Lee and Yang by using general arguments.
