WehavecalculatedtheintensitydistributioninthefocalregionofalaserbeamwithasuperGaussianprofiletruncatedbyacircularaperture.Usingthecalculatedtheoreticalionizationvolumeversusthelaserintensity ,themultipleionizationyieldsofatomsproducedbythetruncatedlaserbeamisstudied .Asanexample,theyieldsofmultiplychargedionsofxenonarecalculat edforfocusedintensitiesintherangeof1 0 1 3 to 1 0 1 6 W cm2 .OscillationsandsuppressionsintheyieldcurvesbecomeobviouslywiththeincreaseofthetruncationsofasupperGaussianbeam .Foralargen,suchasn >2 ,orforstrongtruncations,suchasρa=1 ,ofthesupperGaussianbeam ,theshapeofmultipleionizationyieldsshowslessdependenceonn.Theseoscillationsandsuppressionsinthecalculatedyieldcurvesmaybeusedtoexplaintheexperimentalresultformultiplychargedionsofxenon.
